Firearm Shipping Guide

How to Ship a Firearm to My FFL

Start here before your seller ships anything to Petes Guns and Stuff in Henderson, TX.

Contact Petes before anything ships. Current FFL information and customer details help prevent transfer delays.

Why the Shipping Process Matters

Buying a firearm online or from an out-of-state seller is straightforward — but getting it to you legally requires one important step: shipping it through a licensed FFL dealer in your state. If you're in the Henderson, TX area or anywhere in Rusk County, Petes Guns and Stuff LLC is ready to receive that shipment on your behalf.

The key rule is simple: contact Petes before anything ships. Getting that step right makes the entire process smooth and avoids delays.

Step-by-Step: How to Ship a Firearm to Petes Guns and Stuff

Here's exactly what to do from the moment you decide to buy until the firearm is in your hands:

  • Step 1 — Contact Petes Guns and Stuff first: Before you complete your purchase or ask the seller to ship, call, text, or email to confirm current FFL information and make sure your transfer is expected.
  • Step 2 — Give the seller FFL info: Provide the seller with the current FFL license information. Also give them your full name and a contact number so the paperwork matches up correctly.
  • Step 3 — Seller ships with proper documentation: The seller (whether a licensed dealer or a private party shipping through their own FFL) sends the firearm with all required shipping paperwork included in the package.
  • Step 4 — Petes receives and logs the firearm: When the package arrives, Petes inspects it, logs the firearm into their federally required bound book, and contacts you to let you know it's ready.
  • Step 5 — Schedule your pickup appointment: Reply to the arrival notification and set up a time to come in. Appointments are private and one-on-one — no waiting around.
  • Step 6 — Bring valid ID (and your Texas LTC if you have one): At your appointment, you'll need a valid government-issued photo ID. Your Texas License to Carry reduces the transfer fee from $30 to $25.
  • Step 7 — Complete paperwork and background check: Required federal transfer forms and FBI/NICS background check steps are handled at the appointment when applicable.
  • Step 8 — Pick up your firearm: Once all legal requirements are met, your firearm is released to you. That's it — you're done.

What Information Does the Seller Need?

Your seller needs two things to ship correctly: current FFL license information and your personal contact details. Never ask a seller to ship a firearm to an FFL before confirming that information directly with Petes Guns and Stuff. FFL licenses can be updated, and using outdated information can cause the transfer to be refused or delayed at the receiving end.

When you call, text, or email ahead of time, you'll get exactly what the seller needs. It only takes a few minutes and saves a lot of potential headaches.

Can a Private Seller Ship to Petes?

Private individuals cannot legally ship a handgun through the U.S. Postal Service, and shipping any firearm across state lines as a private seller involves specific requirements. Generally, private sellers will ship through their own local FFL, who then ships dealer-to-dealer to Petes. If you're unsure how your seller should proceed, encourage them to check with their own FFL or a licensed shipper. Petes can clarify what to expect on the receiving end — just ask when you reach out.

Petes doesn't give legal advice, but they're happy to explain how the receiving process works so you and your seller are on the same page.

Transferring Multiple Firearms at Once

If you have more than one firearm arriving around the same time — whether from the same seller or different sources — let Petes know. Additional firearms transferred at the same appointment are just $15 each, on top of the standard transfer fee for the first firearm. Coordinating arrivals in advance can save you time and money.
